ꜱᴀᴀɴ? (ᴡᴏɴʏᴏᴜɴɢ x ʀᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ)

rq: yessiree @geeminz
pairing: ump (international student)wonyoung x La Salle fem!reader
Plot: y/n being hotheaded after school. Almost screams her head off at some poor girl. Thank goodness Wonyoung’s beautiful face calmed the crazy girl
Note: ik this isnt that good or well written but i couldnt think of a cute interaction 💔💔
It was just another hectic afternoon along Taft Avenue, where the relentless Manila heat made everything feel ten times more chaotic. The sidewalk was a river of students—some in the distinct green and white of De La Salle University, others in the maroon of UP Manila—rushing to their next classes, ducking into nearby coffee shops, or hailing jeepneys.
You—Y/N, a third-year student at La Salle—were trying to navigate through the throng with your arms full of books. The weight of your bag was digging into your shoulder, and the sweat was starting to form at your temples. The last thing you needed was another reason to be late for class.
As you weaved through the crowd, someone brushed past you with just enough force to make you lose your balance. The collision sent your books tumbling to the ground, and you felt a spark of irritation flare up inside you. You turned around, ready to go off on whoever it was that had caused this mess, fully expecting to see some careless brat who couldn’t be bothered to watch where they were going.
But before you could unleash your frustration, you found yourself looking at a girl around your age, with a UPM lanyard around her neck and a concerned expression on her face. She immediately bent down to help gather your scattered books, her movements quick and efficient.
“I’m so sorry!” she said, her voice laced with genuine worry. The sound of her voice stopped you in your tracks—it was soft and sweet, the kind of voice that could melt even the hardest heart. Any anger you felt immediately began to dissipate as you watched her carefully stack your books.
You took a deep breath, trying to suppress the last remnants of your irritation as you knelt down to help her. “It’s… it’s okay. I wasn’t really paying attention either,” you said, though you knew that wasn’t entirely true. The truth was, you were caught off guard by her unexpected kindness, and it left you feeling disarmed.
Once the books were gathered, she stood up and handed them back to you, her smile gentle and sincere. “I’m really sorry about that. I should’ve been more careful.”
For a moment, you just stared at her, trying to reconcile the image you had in your head—the bratty student you’d been ready to snap at—with the sweet, apologetic girl standing in front of you. You were about to brush it off, when you realized she was waiting for you to say something.
“Uh, thanks,” you mumbled, still trying to process the sudden shift in your mood. “It’s no big deal, really.”
She smiled again, this time a bit more relaxed, and held out her hand. “I’m Wonyoung, by the way. I’m sorry we had to meet like this.”
You shook her hand, feeling that same strange spark you’d felt earlier. “Y/N,” you replied. “And yeah, it’s… not the best first impression, I guess.”
Wonyoung chuckled, a light sound that made you feel strangely at ease. “Well, at least it’s memorable, right?”
You couldn’t help but smile at that. “Yeah, I suppose so. Are you heading to class too?”
“Yeah,” she nodded, glancing at her watch. “I have a class over at PGH, but I’m running a bit late, as usual.”
“PGH? So you’re a med student?” you asked, genuinely curious.
“Something like that,” she said with a small smile, but then her expression shifted slightly as if she remembered something but not before you said“Wonyoung… that’s an unusual name. Are you an international student?”
She blinked, caught off guard by the question. It wasn’t often that people asked about her name so directly. “Yeah, I am. I’ve been here for a while, though. My parents moved here for work when I was younger, so I guess you could say I’m a local now.”
“That’s cool,” you said, and she could see the genuine interest in your eyes. “It’s always nice to meet people from different backgrounds. Makes this city feel a bit smaller, you know?”
She nodded, feeling a strange warmth in her chest. There was something about Wonyoung that made you feel at ease, like you could talk to her for hours without running out of things to say. But as the pedestrian light turned green and the crowd began to move, you realized you couldn’t stand there chatting all day.
As you both started walking, you found yourselves naturally falling into step with each other, the conversation flowing as easily as if you’d known each other for years. You talked about everything—school, the challenges of being a student in Manila, even the best places to eat around Taft.
When you finally reached the intersection where your paths would diverge, Wonyoung hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Hey, I know this might be random, but would you want to grab a coffee sometime? I mean, if you’re not too busy with school and all.”
You felt your heart skip a beat, surprised by the invitation but also excited by the possibility. “I’d like that,” you replied, your smile widening. “I’m usually at the café near DLSU after classes. Maybe we could meet there?”
“Sounds perfect,” Wonyoung said, her own smile brightening. “I’ll see you then, Y/N.”
With a final wave, Wonyoung headed off towards PGH, while you continued on your way to class, a spring in your step and a smile on your face.

Hi folks! UPM, a Finnish forest industry company, is planning on cutting down forest in Rokansaari — an island that spans five square kilometers in Lake Saimaa. Rokansaari has often been described to be a hidden gem and a paradise island, known for its natural sandy beaches, eskers, and lush beautiful pine forests. It’s very popular among travellers, boaters, tourists, all kinds of people really. Some of the forests on the island are even 130 years old.

The areas that UPM is planning on cutting down are labelled as a protected area, but that really only means that you can’t build things there. “Careful cutting” of these forests is fine. Do you know what UPM’s definition of “careful cutting” is, according to their previous work in other parts of Rokansaari?

…Yeah. And now they’re back to cut down the rest of the area they have.
Anyway, Greenpeace has made a petition to urge UPM to not cut down Rokansaari’s forests! They’ve succeeded in telling UPM off before in 2016, when they managed to keep another similar island safe. I hope they’ll be able to do it again, so I’m sharing the petition! I’m not sure if non-Finns can sign it, but if not, sharing it would be enough. We need more people on this case!

A titan falls from the sky, but not the one you expect to see
Pairing: yandere Optimus Prime x reader
You saluted silently as you passed the captain. He looked gaunt: the last sortie had brought the Survey Corps a lot of corpses. Mutilated, chewed up. Dead. With a look of pain in their eyes that was forever frozen.
Here, for a long time, the dead were not counted: everyone knew they were expendable. To do anything, for the victory of humanity; to give their heart - sometimes literally.
You didn't know how you got into the Survey Corps. Or rather, no, she didn't. You knew why you were brought here in the first place. You were too weak for police or wall guards. Not the best of the best: they didn't allow them to keep the bigwigs and civilians safe. But how did you get into the army, with your temper...?
The answer was simple: you had nothing to lose. In a world surrounded by high walls, it was hard to find happiness. While the struggle - the eternal struggle against a huge, terrifying enemy - led you forward.
Toward freedom.
***
The fifty-eighth Survey Corps foray beyond the walls turned out to be another bloody feast for the Titans. Your wing was completely shattered: you were the only survivor. The horse beneath you was bucking, galloping fast. The horse was wounded: one of the five-meter titans, obviously a deviant, had swung at you minutes earlier, but only caught the animal.
Your heart was beating somewhere in your throat, and your sweat-wet hair blocked your view. You had to find survivors from the other squads and then make your way to the walls: it was too long before nightfall to wait for it.
A bright flash in the sky to your right caught your attention: something was falling from the sky. A bright ball of fire cut through the blue, and afterward flashed even brighter, blinding you for a moment. The horse beneath you spooked, reared up; and you flew down. There was a terrible crashing sound.
“Stop, you vile brute!”
You fell face right into the mud, miraculously not breaking your neck; you froze. There was no one around you. The Titans seemed to have gone to where the people were most numerous; and the rest of you was forgotten.
But not for long. Oh, and then there's that... Flash!
You looked up at three o'clock and marveled. Something huge was towering where the bright fireball had fallen. Was it... Titan? You weren't sure: it wasn't the tallest individual, but he was different. Very different! There were so many differences in him, from his appearance to his behavior. And how did he end up in that ball falling from the sky...?
You spit on the ground, the taste of grass in your mouth. Wiped her face with the sleeve of her torn uniform. Well, I wonder, if you finish off this titan and bring the remains back to the base, will you be promoted then?
Pulling your swords out of their sheaths, you jerked forward and then took off. The 3DMG, fortunately, was not damaged in the fall and was working properly. The trees were sparse and small, but it was enough to fly above the titan and aim for his scruff.
The wind whipped at her face, but it didn't make her feel any better. You always lost control of yourself when you were flying at full speed on the UPM. Flying is a beautiful thing. And yet, even with your UPM skills, you've never killed a single titan in your entire service.
It was time for the first one.
As you spun in the air, you swung downward, straight for the neck...
... and was immediately grabbed by a metallic grip. Literally metal.
The palm that gripped you was like stone. It wasn't the usual rough titanium skin, no. And the titan itself... Bright, red-blue, with luminous blue eyes....
You braced yourself for death. Right now, this thing's gonna squeeze your hand and crush you. Or bite your head off, like its kin like to do?
Neither of those things happened. The fingers that were clutching you relaxed. The titan opened his palm, and you were surprised to note that you were still... Alive. And healthy. And sitting in the palm of this strange creature's hand... Not a titan! In stature and size, yes, but now you could clearly see that it was not their kin. Not an insane killing machine that wanted to devour all humans in its path.
You looked at the 3DMG. It was definitely broken now: this titan hadn't calculated its power to keep the device normal. It was too high to jump, and you wouldn't reach the walls on your own feet.
You swallowed, and then looked at the blue lights that replaced the creature's eyes. Oh, now you could get a good look at it. And you could have sworn he was looking at you... Mockingly? No, condescending! And interested.
And... Reasonable?
The Titan opened his mouth - so unusual! - and a strange mixture of crackles and clicks filled the space. You bowed your head. Were you being spoken to? You're the first person to be spoken to by... This?
“I don't understand,” you smiled confusedly, and the huge titan fell silent.
Loud pops caught your attention: the red lights of smoke flares were rising to the sky. The recon corps' sortie was a failure.
But that was for the others. You had a new mission to accomplish.
***
You didn't know what it was, but it was… Cool.
That day the titan took you to the forest of the Big Trees. The unexpected guest from the sky was not afraid of titans: no deviants, big or small. The red-blue one could shoot fire - or what was that blue stuff? - could change his body with a strange mixture of sounds, and was also extremely comprehensible.
When the titans saw you in the palm of a giant's hand, they tried to attack. They didn't react to the red-blue man himself, even when he turned his hand into a blade and began to slash at them. Then you attracted his attention with a shout and hit yourself on the neck, saying, Watch where you hit.
And you were understood!
The red-blue was easily destroying titan after titan - destroying technically - while managing not to drop you to the ground from a decent height.
You, meanwhile, were delighted. You still didn't fully understand what was happening, but... Who cares what! What matters is that you're with you.
***
You were sitting on the giant's shoulder. He was making strange noises, unlike anything you were familiar with.
You were... Afraid. The creature was strange, but not aggressive to you; it was deep night now, and all the titans were asleep.
You wondered what to do. Take it outside the walls? Would he go? And how would people react? No, there had to be another way out of here.
You should have gone home alone first, thought it over, reported back to your command. Then decide what to do about the red and blue guy.
You fixed the 3DMG. A broken 3DMG. You sighed. It seemed it wasn't fated to come back. At least, not like this.
You sat on the strange titan's shoulder again and fell into a restless sleep.
Only then Optimus Prime allowed himself a smile full of adoration that you could recognize without any words.
He had found you, and he wouldn't let you go.

[Just revisited an old fic—i love making cameos of Mierul Aiman's chaotic friendship in his other dramas]
"So, aku tak faham kau."
Fakhri blinked, caught off guard as he realized he’d been busted doodling in his notebook, surrounded by pamphlets for various universities. He almost felt embarrassed—but not enough to stop.
He wasn’t about to admit he cared. He worked way too hard to maintain the image of a delinquent bad boy, perfectly contrasting Naim’s pristine, prefect persona.
"Nak buat camne, aku kan memang lain daripada yang lain," he replied with mock solemnity, making no effort to hide the stolen college brochures scattered across the table. "Terima je laa aku seadanya."
The boy across from him, the quintessential rich nepo baby, grimaced.
It was the reaction Fakhri always seemed to draw out of people—a pained look that needed no words to express its depth. He relished moments like this.
Because Fakhri was an artist. A connoisseur. Someone with a hypothetical Master’s degree in Asshole-ry and “How to Piss Everyone off in less than five minutes.” For him, this was an art form.
"Takde laa," the other guy pressed on, surprisingly bold, given that he was facing Fakhri’s infamous blank expression—the one that could unnerve just about anyone.
"Aku ingat Naim yang perfectionist pasal bende ni. Tak sangka lak kau kisah gak."
"Hmmm," Fakhri hummed, nonchalantly flipping through one of the pamphlets, clearly uninterested in explaining himself further.
If it was within the country–the top three UM, UKM and UPM seemed to be the obvious choice. Easier to build connections, get scholarships.
UniKL would be hella dope though–imagine having Awie or M. Nasir performing during their graduation. But Fakhri’s unsure how much scholarship can be applied there–maybe he needed a cabel.
That’s where he comes in.
Fakhri grins at the other boy in front of him, failing miserably to hide his hidden agenda.
Predictably, the other boy took a step back, clearly dubious and miffed at Fakhri’s extremely blinding good looks.
He frowns.
“Aku baru perasan kau ade tahi lalat doh.”
"Aku roommate dengan Naim kat KMNS setahun? Kau datang bilik Naim setiap hari kot." the boy asked, a bit desperately now, because he so clearly didn't understand why Fakhri was staring at him in almost wonder.
"Huh… before ni tak perasan… tahi lalat kau kecik sangat."
He staggered a little.
"Tahi lalat aku tepi mulut aku tau."
Fakhri gave him a cold smile. The kind that communicated, 'Kau nampak macam aku kisah ke setan–aku dah cukup masalah hidup dah'. The other boy began to look just a little bit desperate.
“Kau ni, nama aku pon kau tak ingat kan senanye?”
“Ehh salah ke?” Fakhri looked genuinely surprised, “selama ni aku panggil kau Jah–
"Fakhri!" sang out a new voice. "Ehh hanat, kau gi mana sial aku tunggu kau berjam-jam."
"Ni sorang lagi," Jaha added, spooked, and then escaped out the door by ducking around the new body.
"Hilang can aku nak masuk unikl pakai kabel," Fakhri concluded happily.
Hatim, the boy from Fakhri accidentally befriended while he was part timing as food rider, his current closest friend aka partner in crime who swears they’ll either go to prison either for embezzlement or kidnapping, grinned wide and bright and a little maniacal and boosted himself up to sit cross-legged on Fakhri’s desk.
"Sejak bila kau rapat dengan anak-anak dato’ weyh," he pointed out. "Bukan perangai kau cam setan ke?"
"Aku manusia paling baik yang aku kenal laa babi."
"Kau tak kenal ramai orang," Hatim said with a seasoned nod. He pulled out a phone and shoved it into Fakhri’s face, fully believing that Fakhri has the eyesight of a blind bat.
“Aku dah jumpa dah tempat yang kau mintak aku cari haritu.”
"Laju kau buat kerjakot bos kau boleh nampak kau sekarang, confirm dia bangga enn."
“Aku memang MVP babi.”
“Bukan last week dia tangkap kau nak curi kete dia ke?”
"GTA sial" Hatim retorted, and grinned at his phone like it was his first-born child. "Aku borak dengan Makcik Senah, pastu dia gossip kat aku pasal skandal baru cikgu janda tuu, pastu kitorang terserempak Abang long kawasan, rupanya dia rapat dengan geng-geng UFC.”
“UFC?” Fakhri parroted hesitantly.
In spite of Naim’s reservations about his friendship with Hatim–who knows the undercity like the back of his hands– Fakhri, in actuality, has yet to make a name there.
He’s still waiting on the off chance that he doesn’t have to go to uni before he makes a debut into the underworld.
"Abang long yang jaga kawasan ni memang sayang club UFC dia. Tapi diorang lagi sayang aku," Hatim agreed cheerfully.
"Itu laa kau, masuk sekolah pandai tapi bodoh. Tahu bende mainstream je, cuba la masuk dengan yang underground. Kau ni tak in laa–”
"Tiimm.. Kau…kau sama macam someone aku kenal laa."
Hatim tilted his head a little, mouth caught in his ever-present grin, looking ready to cause trouble, always.
"Ye ke? Siapa?"
“Az–Ayam. Kawan aku.”

Since SAG-AFTRA is asking its members to vote for strike authorization, and there have also been rumors of DGA considering doing the same, I was wondering: what's at stake for actors and directors in comparison to writers in terms of the issues the strike is focusing on like residuals and AI? Do you think it's likely those groups will strike too? (Sorry if you're not the person to ask about this)
Well, the problem with slowly working my way through a long queue is that this question is now well out of date. The DGA took a deal, like they always do (no surprise). SAG-AFTRA has a strike authorization. As to what's at stake:
FOR DIRECTORS: AI can potentially create shooting schedules, shot lists, call sheets, all straight from a script, taking away work from ADs and UPMs. The DGA says they've gotten protection from this. I'm a little skeptical. I'm not sure their language is bulletproof, but we'll see. Of course, if the actors, sets, and scripts all end up being generated by algorithms, there won't be anything for directors or other DGA members to do. Studios will be able to automate the entire content process. As to residuals, the DGA used our strike as leverage to get some gains. Less than I think they could have gotten if they'd walked, but DGA gonna DGA.
FOR ACTORS: So-called AI is already coming for actors. Voice actors are looking at a doomsday scenario where computer generated voices could take away their voice acting jobs completely, and very very soon. If a CG character doesn't need an actor to voice it and give a reference performance, that's the end of hiring actors for animation. And once CG becomes completely photo-realistic, that'll be the end of acting. Actors will be replaced by either completely computer generated "characters" or digital recreations of today's stars will end up acting in everything going forward forever, which means no new jobs for anyone else. That's an existential crisis for them, so if they can't get protections from CG "actors," I predict they'll strike.
At least that's how I see it.
Singularity coming.
Unless we stop it. It's now or never.

I'm doing good!
I'm working on a website for Locibarpulo, and I'm going to revise our declaration of independence a bit, work on the constitution some
It's been difficult, with our only really serious co-founder being, well, unable to serve his role for the foreseeable future, but we have to keep government stuff moving, especially with the UPM getting more developed!
I'm also going to revise the citizenship application, and draw up some forms for other stuff, like business registration and name changes

!NEW RELEASE!
Title: Sylvia Plath Day by Day, Volume 1: 1932-1955
Author: Carl Rollyson
Publication date: 15 August 2023
Pages: 400
Publisher: University Press of Mississippi (UPM)
Image source (cover & description): https://www.upress.state.ms.us
About the book:
“A fascinating investigation into the life and art of one of America’s greatest poets
Since Sylvia Plath’s death in 1963, she has become the subject of a constant stream of books, biographies, and articles. She has been hailed as a groundbreaking poet for her starkly beautiful poems in Ariel and as a brilliant forerunner of the feminist coming-of-age novel in her semiautobiographical The Bell Jar. Each new biography has offered insight and sources with which to measure Plath’s life and influence. Sylvia Plath Day by Day, a two-volume series, offers a distillation of this data without the inherent bias of a narrative.
Volume 1 commences with Plath’s birth in Boston in 1932, records her response to her elementary and high school years, her entry into Smith College, and her breakdown and suicide attempt, and ends on February 14, 1955, the day she wrote to Ruth Cohen, principal of Newnham College, Cambridge, to accept admission as an “affiliated student at Newnham College to read for the English Tripos.”
Sylvia Plath Day by Day is for readers of all kinds with a wide variety of interests in the woman and her work. The entries are suitable for dipping into and can be read in a minute or an hour. Ranging over several sources, including Plath’s diaries, journals, letters, stories, and other prose and poetry—including new material and archived material rarely seen by readers—a fresh kaleidoscopic view of the writer emerges.
Reviews
"The details in Rollyson’s Sylvia Plath Day by Day, Volume 1: 1932–1955 are a dream come true for the reader, fan, and scholar of Sylvia Plath. The seeds of so much of her creative writing are present, but Rollyson deftly does not foreshadow how events impact Plath’s life and when she transforms experiences from life to art. He lets each moment stand on its own importance."
"Sylvia Plath Day by Day, Volume 1: 1932–1955 is a must-have book for any reader interested in Plath. Detailed yet highly readable, it paints a portrait of a young woman who would become, as will be chronicled in volume 2, one of the seminal authors in the twentieth century."
"Sylvia Plath Day by Day, Volume 1: 1932–1955 fills the lacunae of existing biographies and uncovers new insights into its subject, as when Plath writes about her experiences at Smith, hearing ‘nasty little tag ends of conversation directed at you and around you, meant for you, to strangle you on the invisible noose of insinuation.’ Or her months in New York at Mademoiselle, which grow less mysterious here. Again, Carl Rollyson has provided us with an indispensable book on Sylvia Plath." “
You can order the book through their website or from other online shops.

Most guys my age wanted to be ballplayers or rock stars, but I dreamt of working behind the gates of South Works from the first time I witnessed a shift change.
The images always reminded me of war movies as I watched men enter the gates with heads held high and shoulders squared, and watch later as the battle weary survivors of the previous battle exited with shoulders slumped and heads hung low but calling to each other seemingly ready to celebrate the end of their mission with shots and beers.
I finally realized that dream as young man, barely 17 but able to alter my birth certificate to add 2 years to my age and was accepted to work in the 30" UPM.
My first day was a cacophony of almost overwhelming sights and sounds accompanying an almost surrealistic dance of man and machines working and moving steel plates. Men marking and measuring and stamping heat treat numbers into steel. Huge undulating beds moving plates to travel along blocks-long rolling lines, men with hooks threading chains between steel bundles to be hoisted by huge overhead cranes and delivered to other waiting men with hooks in train cars and on truck beds.
It was a job I thought I'd have forever. A job that proved my worth and ability to provide for my young family and give them a better life. But it was not to be. Within 10 years all of the hope withered and I watched my plant, my neighborhood and my dreams slowly dismantled and forgotten.
A commenter on the Southeast Chicago Historical Society, regarding the South Works U.S. Steel plant that was shuttered in 1992.
